Asbestos Abatement

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral the separates into fibres. It is found in the veins of rocks and is still mined in Canada today. Because of its incombustibility, strength, flexibility and effectiveness as a binding agent in cement and plaster, it was commonly used in many building materials. Exposure to airborne asbestos can lead to asbestosis, mesothelioma and lung cancer. Asbestos has been banned in Ontario since 1986 but was generally not used after the late 1970s. Removal of asbestos containing building materials is regulated by Ontario Regulation 278/05. As part of any renovation and demolition, the regulation requires that all asbestos be removed from a building that will be impacted by the construction work.

Some building materials that could contain asbestos are:

  • • Ceiling and Vinyl Floor Tiles
  • • Drywall Joint Compound
  • • Texture Coats
  • • Plaster Walls and Ceilings
  • • Sprayed Fireproofing
  • • Vinyl Sheet Floor Backing
  • • Adhesives, Caulking and Tape
  • • Roofing Materials
  • • Mechanical Insulations and Gaskets
  • • Various Cement Products (Shingles, Siding, Pipes, Panels)
  • • Tar Paper
  • • Vermiculite Insulation

Tyger’s team is fully qualified to perform Type 1, 2 and 3 asbestos operations and has been certified with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities for Type 3 Worker and Supervisor. Working closely with consultants, we work as a team to provide the safest and most efficient methods for asbestos abatement.

Mould Remediation

Mould is everywhere in our environment and is often the cause of seasonal allergies. When mould grows inside a building due to high humidity or wet building materials, it can become a health concern for the occupants. It is especially concerning for immune-compromised individuals, the elderly and the very young. If mould is found in the indoor environment, it should be removed promptly and professionally. The Environmental Abatement Council of Ontario (EACO) provides the guidelines for the safe removal of mould contaminated materials following Level 1, 2 and 3, as determined by the amount of mould present. Without proper methods for removing mould, there is a risk of exposing occupants and cross contaminating unaffected areas. The most common health effect of mould exposure is allergenic however can cause infection in susceptible people.

Tyger is experienced in performing all levels of mould remediation and no project is too difficult for our team. We are trained and insured for any and all mould remediation projects.

Lead Removal

Lead was commonly used in paint during the earlier part of the 20th century and has now been listed as a designated substance due to its toxicity. Exposure to lead through inhalation and ingestion can damage the nervous system, especially in children. Lead paint can be found in many different buildings including commercial, institutional and residential environments. Removal of lead paint following the guidelines set out by the Environmental Abatement Council of Ontario is essential to protect the workers as well as the occupants from being exposed to the dust created by disturbing materials painted with lead paint. Tyger’s technicians are also experienced in cleaning up lead residue found in industrial and manufacturing operations, as well as firing ranges. The management team has extensive knowledge how to best approach any project to keep all involved as safe as is possible.
